Election Commission starts opening postal ballots for Sabah state election, with 22,880 approved applications across three categories.
KOTA KINABALU: The Election Commission has commenced opening postal ballot envelopes for the 17th Sabah State Election at several vote-tallying centres.
This process began ahead of the 5 pm deadline for receiving B envelopes today.
The commission streamed the envelope opening live on its official Facebook page.
This marks the third of four key stages in postal vote management following issuance, receiving, and preceding counting.

According to an Elections Academy spokesperson, 22,880 postal vote applications received approval for this state election.
These cover categories 1A, 1B and 1C including election officials, media practitioners, and security forces.
The categories also include polling-day workers, overseas voters, and individuals from listed agencies.
The live broadcast showed the opening process at Dewan Jati, Sabah Agriculture Department.
This location handled ballots for two state seats – N53 Sekong and N54 Karamunting.
N53 Sekong processed 286 postal votes comprising 265 category 1A, five category 1B and 16 category 1C votes.
N54 Karamunting received 696 postal votes consisting of 685 category 1A, three category 1B and eight category 1C votes.
Penang returning officers assisted in today’s process at the tallying centres.
Several candidate agents were present to observe the envelope opening procedures.
