All 19 residents affected by WCE land acquisition have applied for the state’s smart rental scheme, with approvals pending standard procedures
SHAH ALAM: All 19 residents affected by house demolition and land acquisition for the West Coast Expressway project have applied for units under the Selangor government’s Smart Rental Scheme.
State Housing and Culture Executive Councillor Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said approval for applicants still depends on standard government procedures, including rental conditions and deposit payments.
“Although the state government is ready to provide Smart Rental Scheme units as temporary accommodation, residents still need to comply with the basic conditions,” he told reporters.
He was speaking after the 2025 Ceria Scheme Project Assistance Grant Ceremony officiated by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
Borhan said residents had requested an expedited approval process and for the state to bear rental costs for one year.
He noted the request for a year’s rental could be considered if reduced to six months, as the annual cost for all families would be around RM200,000.
All offered Smart Rental units are within a 10-kilometre radius of Kampung Jawa, with preferred locations including units with a swimming pool rented at RM900 monthly.
“The state government has given a lot of space, including postponing the evacuation order several times, but the process has been delayed due to residents’ requests,” he said.
He added that land acquisition was done according to procedure, with 75% of compensation payments already made, and only legal owners will be considered for the scheme.
Regarding the demolition work that began today, Borhan said the process was proceeding smoothly without any untoward incidents.
“I myself monitored it since the morning and everything went smoothly,” he stated.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar earlier confirmed the controlled demolition process was smooth, with the local community cooperating fully.
