Pastor Koh’s wife seeks legal firm as trustee for RM31 million damages

Susanna Liew applies for her law firm to be appointed trustee to manage over RM31 million in damages awarded over her husband’s 2017 abduction

KUALA LUMPUR: The wife of missing Pastor Raymond Koh has applied to appoint her legal firm as trustee for the more than RM31 million in damages awarded by the High Court.

Susanna Liew Sow Yoke is seeking for Messrs Jerald Gomez & Associates to manage the trust account.

Lawyer Datuk Jerald Gomez conveyed the application during case management before High Court Judge Datuk Su Tiang Joo.

Senior Federal Counsel Nurul Farhana Khalid, representing the government and police, requested time to file a reply affidavit.

Judge Su then fixed 8 December for the hearing of the application.

On 5 November, the court ordered the government and police to deposit the damages into a trustee account.

The sum includes general damages of RM10,000 daily from 13 February 2017 until Koh’s whereabouts are revealed.

It also comprises RM1 million in damages and another RM1 million in exemplary damages.

Liew’s application, filed on 28 November, names two financial institutions as alternative trustees.

These are PB Trustee Services Berhad and Amanah Raya Berhad.

In a supporting affidavit, the 69-year-old said the appointment was agreed upon by her three children.

She stated the legal firm has represented her family on a pro bono basis since 2017.

The firm has been in existence for over 30 years, having been established in 1991.

Liew filed the suit against the police and government over her husband’s disappearance and the investigation.

Koh was reportedly abducted by masked men while driving in Kelana Jaya on 13 February 2017. – Bernama
