Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency denies viral deepfake videos of its DG, warns of fraud and threatens legal action against creators
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency has declared two viral TikTok videos to be fake.
The videos feature a face and voice resembling the agency’s director-general, Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, purportedly expressing support for certain aid.
AKPS said the clips were created using deepfake technology for fraudulent purposes.
It advised the public to exercise caution and not be misled by such AI-manipulated content.
“To obtain authentic information on any form of government assistance, the public is advised to refer only to official media channels and the websites of the relevant ministries, departments and agencies,” the agency stated.
AKPS confirmed it is treating the matter seriously.
It emphasised that legal action will be pursued against any party responsible for creating or spreading the fake content. – Bernama
