Airport in darkness after power trip

GEORGE TOWN: The power outage which caused a blackout in certain sections of the Penang International Airport on Tuesday afternoon was caused by a power trip.
Airport senior manager Arif Jaafar said the incident happened from 4.17pm, with power restored about half an hour later at 4.50pm.
He said neither Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) nor the airport was to be blamed.
"There was a power trip and no one is to be blamed," he told theSun when contacted today, adding that the outage did not disrupt flight operations.
In July 2012, the power went off for about an hour at the airport's international arrival hall causing several flights to be disrupted.
The latest incident comes after the arrival hall driveway and car park were flooded following heavy rain on April 1.
In 2012, a woman was injured after parts of the ceiling collapsed near the ticketing counter after heavy rain while the airport suffered leaks at various sections during renovation works in 2011.
The latest blackout also earned the ire of Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng who took to Twitter to express his disappointment.
"First flooding now power outage in Penang International Airport," he said in one of his tweets with pictures of a darkened departure hall.
