TELUK INTAN: The top concern among the people in the Teluk Intan constituency is crime, DAP candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud said today.
This finding was based on a survey which the DAP commissioned in the constituency two weeks ago, she told reporters after launching the party’s operation centre at Pekan Baru.
She reiterated the DAP’s stand that the police dedicate more resources to fighting crime in the country.
Dyana also extended her condolences to the family of SisterJuliana Lim, 69, a nun who died without regaining consciousness at the Tuanku Jaafar Hospital on Tuesday after being attacked at a church in Seremban last week.
“We hope that this heinous crime, which the police have classified as murder, can be solved in the fastest possible time.
“It highlights the seriousness of the crime situation in the country leaving many Malaysians, particularly the women, concerned for their safety and security,” she said.
Dyana also denied that her mother, Yammy Samat, was a former Perkasa leader.
“My mother wasn’t at the first AGM of Perkasa. She did not join Perkasa,” she said when commenting on a newspaper report today which quoted Perkasa secretary-general Syed Hassan Syed Ali as confirming that Yammy was the first chief of Wanita Perkasa, now known as Wiranita, and that Yammy left before the first AGM.
A photograph had surfaced recently in news reports which showed Yammy, Perkasa’s Datuk Ibrahim Ali and Dyana at an event and this resulted in certain quarters questioning the affiliation of Yammy, an Umno member, with the NGO.
Dyana clarified on Tuesday that the picture was taken at an event celebrating Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah’s honorary doctorate from University Teknologi Mara (UiTM).
