Security guard detained for rape

MIRI: Police have detained a 58-year-old security guard for allegedly raping his 11-year-old niece.
Miri district police chief ACP Gan Tian Kee said the suspect was arrested following a report lodged by the victim's teacher at 7.30am yesterday.
The victim, who is in Standard Five at a primary school in Batu Niah, is believed to be staying with the suspect since she was eight-years-old after her mother died and the father had to work in Bintulu, he told Bernama here today.
He said the teacher lodged a police report after the victim confided in her. The girl was then sent to the Miri Hospital for a medical examination and a medical officer confirmed that she was raped, he added. – Bernama
