IPOH: Perak Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism officers believe they have crippled a syndicate involved in the distribution of subsidised diesel to the northern part of the country with the arrest of three individuals at a transit point in an industrial estate in Gopeng here on Tuesday.
Two lorry tankers with 15,000 litres of diesel worth RM30,000 were seized in the raid held at an isolated site. The tanker drivers were among those detained.
The department's deputy director Mohd Khalis Kasim said initial investigations revealed that the diesel was supposed to be sold for industrial use.
"We believe the fuel was also intended to be smuggled into a neighbouring country," he said, adding that they were in the midst of tracking down the owners of the tankers and the companies involved in this illegal activity.
