SHAH ALAM: Selangor PAS has given two of its state assemblymen 24 hours to withdraw their support for Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the new Selangor Menteri Besar.
Selangor PAS secretary, Mohd Khairuddin Othman said if both of them - Hasnul Baharuddin (Morib) and Saari Sungib (Hulu Kelang) failed to do so, they would face disciplinary action.
"Selangor PAS takes a serious view of the action by the two PAS assemblymen as they have acted on their own and disregarded party orders.
"I am advising both assemblymen to withdraw their support for Dr Wan Azizah or PAS Selangor will start instituting disciplinary action," he said in a statement here today.
Hasnul and Saari today joined a media conference with Dr Wan Azizah to state their support for the PKR president to replace Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as mentri besar of the state.
At the media conference, Dr Wan Azizah, who is also Kajang state assemblywoman, claimed that 30 Selangor assemblymen, including Hasnul and Saari, had declared that they had no confidence in Abdul Khalid as the mentri besar.
Mohd Khairuddin also viewed the actions of the two assemblymen as hasty and were too obsessed on the issue when PAS Central Committee will only be taking an official stand on the issue at its meeting this Sunday.
"PAS has its proper hierachy which we must adhere to. We will abide by whatever decision is made by PAS central on Aug 17, so be patient," he said.
The Selangor state assembly has 56 seats with PAS and DAP having 15 seats each, PKR (13), Barisan Nasional (12) and Independent (1).
Prior to this, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang had defended Abdul Khalid to remain as mentri besar, as according to him, Abdul Khalid had done nothing wrong in carrying out his duties for the people.
Also sharing the view was PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat who questioned the motive of certain parties in trying to remove Abdul Khalid from the post.
PAS Ulama Council had also concurred with the PAS president to allow Abdul Khalid to serve out his term. – Bernama
