PETALING JAYA: Mohamed Azmin Ali (pix) has retained the Parti Keadilan Rakyat deputy president post after he obtained 22,562 votes, beating Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail who picked up 10,743 votes.
Announcing the results at the PKR headquarters today, party central elections committee (JPP) director Datuk Johari Abdul said Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim is no longer contesting the deputy presidency as he was sacked from the party.
Nurul Izzah Anwar, Chua Tian Chang or Tian Chua, Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin and Rafizi Ramli were elected as the party's vice-presidents.
Nurul Izzah, the Lembah Pantai MP, had 29,712 votes, followed by Batu MP Tian Chua (22,324 votes), Bukit Katil MP Shamsul Iskandar with 19,83 votes and Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli with 18,887 votes.
The president's post was uncontested, with Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail retaining the post.
Johari said the party needed some time before it can officially announce the results because they need to be very thorough and did not want to commit any mistakes.
"We don't want to announce the results, then withdraw it if there are mistakes found in the election process," he said.
Johari added the JPP needs to ensure that the election was as transparent as possible.
"To ensure this, JPP needs to entertain all complaints on the election," he said.
He advised dissatisfied members not to take their grievances to court as this was against PKR's constitution and could lead to their dismissal from the party.
"They still have the opportunity to turn to the appeals committee after the PKR congress ends (PKR congress is from today till Sunday). There will be plenty of room to raise objections and members should take advantage of this," Johari said.
Voting began last April, but claims of voter fraud and other objections caused the elections to drag on for months.
