TUMPAT: Independent candidate Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary kicked off his campaign for the Pengkalan Kubor by-election on Sept 25 at the popular Pengkalan Kubor free trade zone, today.
Izat Bukhary, 47, a former lecturer at Universiti Teknologi Mara and a number of other private universities, approached traders, visitors and those shopping in the popular free trade zone shopping complex.
"Do not be afraid to vote for me," he urged every individual whom he met.
Arriving at the busy shopping complex with a number of his supporters, Izat Bukhary who was holding a pen which also happens to be his symbol for the by-election, said his decision to contest was to make his contribution to the people of the constituency.
He said although he lost in the contest for the same seat during last year's general election (received only 65 votes), he was still determined to prove to the people that he was serious in his attempts to fight for their wellbeing.
The Pengkalan Kubor by-election which is being held following the death of BN incumbent, Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar, 57, on Aug 20, due to liver cancer will see a three-cornered fight between PAS' Wan Rosdi Wan Ibrahim, Barisan Nasional's (BN) Mat Razi Mat Ail and independent candidate Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary.
Pengkalan Kubor has 24,039 voters, comprising 92% Malays, 6.8% Siamese and 1% Chinese. – Bernama
