Singapore adopts reciprocal approach to toll increase: Senior minister

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Singapore government adopted a reciprocal approach when deciding to impose and raise toll charges at Woodlands Causeway Checkpoint effective Oct 1.
Its Senior Minister of State for Foreign and Home Affairs, Masagos Zulkifli Masagos Mohamed said Singapore has the right to impose new toll rates and raise existing rates.
"Singapore has a reciprocal policy. This means that we will match the toll increase imposed by Malaysia. If there is a drop, we may follow," he told reporters after visiting Taman Tamadun Islam here, today.
Masagos Zulkifli is on a two-day working visit to Terengganu to strengthen ties between Singapore and states in Malaysia, including to promote closer economic ties.
Singapore raised its toll rates to match the toll rates imposed by Malaysia at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar at the Johor Causeway effective Aug 1.
New toll rates for vehicles exiting Singapore are: Car - S$3.80 (RM9.60) from S$1.20 (RM3) previously, Van - S$5.80 (RM14.60) compared to S$1.90 (RM4.80), Lorry - S$7.70 (RM19.50) compared to S$2.60 (RM6.60), Taxi - S$1.90 (RM4.80) compared to S$0.60 (RM1.50) and Bus - S$3.10 (RM7.85) compared to S$1 (RM2.50).
Toll rates for vehicles entering Singapore are: Car - S$2.70 (RM6.80), Van - S$4 (RM10), Lorry - S$5.30 (RM13.40), Taxi - S$1.40 (RM3.50) and Bus -S$2.20 (RM5.60). – Bernama
