PETALING JAYA: The education ministry is closely monitoring the preparation in the run-up to the re-examination for the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) English and Science papers on Sept 30.
Its deputy minister, P. Kamalanathan said the ministry would ensure such a fiasco (involving UPSR leaks) would not recur during the re-examination as the authorities had learnt a lesson from the incident.
He said, both UPSR English and Science paper re-examination would be held on the same day (Tuesday, Sept 30) nationwide.
"A special committee has been set up (as announced by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) to see how we are going to strengthen the system, so there will be no more loophole or leakage possibilities in the future," he told reporters after a prize-giving ceremony for Sunway-Oxbridge Essay Competition 2014 here today.
Meanwhile during his speech, Kamalanathan said proficiency in English among Malaysian students and graduates was important to increase their confidence, hence providing them with better employment opportunities.
On the essay competition, he said it was also held in line with the preparation of the students before they sat for their public examination at the end of this year, thus giving them sufficient exercises.
Yesyannah A/P Jeeva Kumar, 14, from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seremban 2, Negeri Sembilan won in Category A, while Leong Whye Ye, 17 of Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan Chung Hwa Confucian, Penang won in Category B.
Both took home the cash prize of RM5,000 and Sunway bursaries of RM20,000 respectively, along with trophy and certificate.
Also present were Sunway Group deputy chairman, Tan Sri Razman Hashim; Oxford & Cambridge Society Malaysia president, Mark Disney; Senior Executive Director of Sunway Education Group and Sunway University, Dr Elizabeth Lee; and, Executive Committee Member of Oxford & Cambridge Society Malaysia, Margaret Hall. – Bernama
