Najib satisfied with US trip

NEW YORK: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak is happy and satisfied with his nine-day visit to the United States, encompassing multi-faceted tasks from international to economic and youth affairs.
The tasks included addressing the United Nations General Assembly and a UN meeting on climate change, as well as wooing support for Malaysia's candidature for a non-permanent member seat in the United Nations Security Council.
In enhancing Malaysia's relationship with other countries, he held separate bilateral meetings with his counterparts from the Netherlands (Mark Rutte), Pakistan (Muhammad Nawas Sharif), Luxembourg (Xavier Bettel) and Tunisia Dr Mohamed Moncef Marzouki).

"We gained recognition from others, including US President Barack Obama who recognised Malaysia's efforts in turning the country into an advanced economy when Obama mentioned the matter in his speech at the General Assembly," said Najib.
He hoped the visit could provide a higher profile of Malaysia, especially if the country secured the non-permanent member seat in the Security Council.
On the economic front, he met American fund managers, investors and business leaders in attracting them to do business or increase their investments in Malaysia. "Their responses towards Malaysia are very encouraging," he said.
In further developing the country's biotechnology, innovation and technology sectors, Najib held separate meetings with experts in those sectors.
He also presented the Perdana Scholar Awards to 31 outstanding Malaysian students in the US.
Najib also did not want to miss the opportunity of meeting the Malaysian diaspora by hosting a dinner for them here.
