PETALING JAYA: Tekla (SEA) Pte Ltd, a global provider of Building Information Modeling (BIM) software to the engineering and construction markets, has appointed Prestariang Group as its official corporate education partner for Malaysia.
Prestariang's wholly-owned subsidiary Prestariang Systems Sdn Bhd signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Tekla yesterday, marking the first collaborative effort initiated by Tekla with a corporation to boost BIM education.
Under the MOA, Prestariang will be the exclusive education partner to all institutes of higher learning (IPTA), including universities, polytechnics and community colleges in Malaysia. The MOA also identified Prestariang as the authorised training centre in Malaysia.
"We are honoured to be appointed as Tekla's first corporate education partner in its foray into the Malaysian education industry. As the software and IT industry continues to move rapidly into the next millenium, so do the construction and engineering industries. Tekla Structures is one of the leading BIM software solutions on the market which provides an accurate, dynamic and data-rich 3D environment that can be shared by contractors, structural engineers, steel detailers and fabricators, as well as concrete detailers and manufacturers.

"We believe this will greatly benefit our market in civil and structural engineering education and development of local talents for the global market through our globally benchmarked certification courses," said Prestariang CEO Dr. Abu Hasan Ismail in a statement yesterday.
The group said it was selected by Tekla based on its strong track record in the education and government segment primarily in the areas of training and certification of professionals, to meet the expected demand of the global market.
To date, Prestariang has trained and certified over 200,000 individuals as well as distributed and managed more than five million software licenses since its inception in 2003.
"We are delighted to be working with Prestariang as we establish our footing in the Malaysian education segment. We believe that this joint endeavour will prove fruitful especially for civil and structural engineering students nationwide as we provide effortless access to our software and encourage its integration into the curriculum to expand the students' knowledge and skills," said Tekla Corp director of education and key accounts Michael Evans.
Headquartered in Finland, Tekla has a global presence in over 20 countries and customers in over 100 countries. Some Malaysian corporates amongst its customers include Milwanto Industries, Kimlun Sdn Bhd, Ranhill WorleyParsons and Sime Darby Engineering.
"In a developing country like Malaysia, we are encouraged by the advancement and government policy support for the growth of the construction and building industry to take place. Without doubt, through our partnership with Prestariang, Tekla will be ready to provide the necessary support contributing efficiency and dynamism to the industry that is moving towards a developed status," added Evans.
Prestariang said the MOA does not have any revenue contribution to the group at the point of the agreement signing.
