PKR takes Shahidan to task

PETALING JAYA: PKR Youth Information chief Lee Chean Chung has slammed Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim for saying that the recent PKR delegates' visit to Australia had tarnished the country's image.
Noting that Shahidan's allegation was baseless, Lee said that he, Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli, Penampang MP Darell Leiking, Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin and Selangor state exco member Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad had met with Australian leaders to discuss pressing matters involving regional interest.
"Among the issues discussed were the usage of the Sedition Act to silence people, the rise of radicalism and extremism, the political trial of Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and other matters.
"The fact that the delegates were welcomed by Australian leaders including Australian foreign minister Julie Bishop, Senate Deputy President Gavin Marshall and several other MPs proved that they are concerned and viewed the issues discussed seriously," he said in a press statement today.
He added that Malaysia will not be embarrassed by working visits by elected representatives and politicians, but the country will only be humiliated based on selective prosecution, flawed judicial system, human rights and freedom threatened and religious and racist radicalism.
Lee also reminded Shahidan that the call to abolish the Sedition Act was not only supported by the opposition and the people, but it was a promise made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak in the past.
