PETALING JAYA: Just a day after the RM2 million heist on Monday, swift action by police led to half the loot being recovered at an undisclosed location in Pahang late Tuesday.
Following interrogations just hours after the arrest of the security guards on Tuesday, the suspicions of the police of an "inside job" involved in the heist turned out to be true when a fifth man was held yesterday.
Sources said the latest suspect led police investigators to Pahang where the man was held and at least half of the stolen cash recovered.
It is believed that the suspect was a former guard of the affected security company.
Police are working on recovering the rest of the stolen cash and expect to make more arrests soon. The fifth suspect was brought to Selangor today where he was remanded for investigations.
Selangor police said a press conference will be held soon to divulge more details.
On Monday night, four security guards who had earlier carried out a cash-in-transit task in an armoured van at several business outlets in Serdang and Seri Kembangan told police that a gang of gun-totting robbers had escaped with the RM2 million they were had collected.
Police learnt from the guards that while the driver of the security vehicle had apparently stayed in the van to watch over the cash, his three colleagues went for dinner at a restaurant at 9pm.
When the three guards returned to the car park, the van was missing but was later recovered not far from the area. The driver told police that he was assaulted and tied up by the robbers.
However, investigators found their account of the incident "fishy" due to inconsistencies in their statements and detained the men for further investigations.
