KUALA LUMPUR: The government has announced two new projects under the Business Services New Key Economic Area (NKEA), which aims to contribute a combined RM1.213 billion towards gross national income (GNI) by 2020.
The two projects are the Goldbury Global IT Automotive Outsourcing Hub under Entry Point Project (EPP) 2 and the Asia Aerospace City (AAC) under the new EPP7, which aims to make Malaysia the hub for aerospace original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot said the Goldbury project would generate RM113 million in GNI, create 450 highly skilled jobs and contribute RM5.5 million in investments by 2020 by supporting and servicing automotive companies using systems, applications and products (SAP) automotive solutions to service over 100,000 SAP users globally.
"This project will address a big gap between demand and supply for SAP automotive services and resources, catering to automotive customers in their end-to-end system functions to ensure projects are delivered and systems are supported with the highest quality according to the automotive best practices," he told reporters after the Business Services NKEA steering committee meeting yesterday.
He added that Goldbury Communications Sdn Bhd is currently the only authorised training academy for SAP Automotive modules in the region.
Goldbury Communications CEO Mohamed Zuhri Mohamed Yusof said it will invest RM5.5 million over the next two years, mainly for infrastructure and human capital.
The company has already set up the 24/7 hub in Medini Iskandar, Nusajaya in Johor to facilitate the application management support, project outsourcing, offshore development, research and development (R&D), recruitment and technical support.
The hub aims to employ 450 consultants and knowledge workers for the next five years.
Zuhri said in Malaysia there are only about 15,000 SAP users but it is targeting 100,000 users globally over the next three years.
Meanwhile, the AAC project led by M-AeroTech Sdn Bhd is targeting a direct GNI contribution of RM1.1 billion, RM1.16 billion in investments and creation of 3,368 highly skilled jobs by 2020.
"One of the major initiatives of the AAC is to provide sustainable, industry-ready human capital solutions, with its pragmatic professional development programme in collaboration with industry-led academic institutions and the OEMs.
"The AAC will open doors for partnering with Southeast Asia and the Middle East for industry and human capital exchange programmes to generate top class aerospace engineering jobs globally," said Riot.
M-AeroTech chief technical officer Naguib Mohd Nor said it will invest RM2 billion over seven years for infrastructure.
The AAC will have a centre of excellence in Subang Nexus with facilities and infrastructure including integrated offices, R&D incubation facilities, academic campus, a professional development centre, a convention centre and residential buildings.
