Former national athlete, Thor, to be cremated tomorrow

GEORGE TOWN: Former national sprinter Thor Gim Soon who died on Sunday morning due to heart complications will be cremated at the Batu Gantong crematorium tomorrow.
The bronze medalist for the 4x100m race in the 1962 Asian Games at Jakarta passed away at his home here about 7am.
He was also reported to have suffered from diabetes and had his legs amputated in 2009.
His daughter, Dee Mei, 33, said the family as well as the country had lost someone who had contributed much.
She said her father had inspired her to strive to be the best in all she did through his sporting prowess.
"I hope he rests in peace," she said when met at the funeral parlour here during the wake yesterday.
He left behind his wife, Tan Poh Swan, 62, his three daughters and a son.
Thor was born in 1944 and retired as the Penang Prisons deputy enforcement officer.
He bagged the Asian Games bronze alongside M. Jegathesan,V. Vijaratnam and Shahrudin Mohr Ali.
He clinched another bronze medal during the same event at the 1971 Southeast Asian Games held in Kuala Lumpur.
