13 Mat Lajaks summoned after 'Jempol ride' at Tmn Bkt Jaya

JOHOR BARU: Johor Baru police have issued summons to 13 Mat Lajaks after a “Jempol ride” at Taman Bukit Jaya, near here yesterday.

Johor Baru South district police deputy chief Superintendent M. Kumar S. Muthuvellu said traffic police acted on a tip off from the public, and rounded up a group of teenagers riding dangerously on modified bicycles (Jempol) at Jalan Denai 44, Taman Bukit Indah.
According to a statement issued by the police, 13 summons were issued under Section 42 (1) (a)LN166/59 of Road Traffic Rules 1959 for illegal modified bicycles, which carries a fine up to RM2,000 or a maximum jail term for six months.

Police also confiscated 15 bicycles under Section 112(3) of the Road Transportation Act 1987.
All teens including a school drop-out have been released after their offences were recorded at Pelangi Indah police station.
He reminded cyclists and parents should learn from the recent incident where a car ploughed into a group of cyclists and claimed eight lives at Jalan Lingkaran Dalam, Johor Baru around 3am on Feb 18.
Parents of these cyclists can be taken action under Section 33 of Child Act 2001, which carries a fine up to RM5,000 or a maximum two-year jail term or both upon conviction.
