SEPANG: The fate of national badminton ace and former world number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei will be revealed on Saturday as the World Badminton Federation (BWF) has fixed that day for the hearing of his doping case in Amsterdam.
Chong Wei, who was suspended by the BWF for allegedly failing a random dope test when traces of dexamethasone was found after undergoing a test during the World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark last year, left for London today to meet his lawyer, Mike Morgan before heading to Amsterdam to attend the trial.
Accompanying him were Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) general manager Kenny Goh and council member Jadadish Chandra.
Speaking to reporters before his departure, Chong Wei was optimistic that the outcome would be a professional decision by the panel who would look at the case holistically.
"This is an important moment for me, I hope all will continue to support me. I hope it will be over as soon as possible.
"I wish to thank my supporters, maybe the result will be known on Saturday or a week after the trial. I will update the decision on my Facebook," he said.
His wife, Datin Wong Mew Choo and son Kingston Lee were also at the KL International Airport to send him off. – Bernama
