KOTA KINABALU: The Board of Trustees of Sabah Parks has submitted names of 27 foreign climbers to the police, to investigate the publication of pictures of tourists acting in an inappropriate manner, at the South Peak area of Mount Kinabalu, on Sunday.
Its director, Dr Jamili Nais said 10 of the climbers, including four women from the group of climbers from Europe, went naked in the area despite being prevented by the Malim Gunung (mountain guide).
"However, the foreign climbers verbally abused the guide," he said in a statement here today.
He said Sabah Parks has not been able to ascertain the identity of those involved or whether they are in the country.
Jamili said this incident was by a group of European tourists who go nude whenever they stepped on sacred places of the world.
Following the incident, Sabah Parks has requested for a show cause letter from the 'Malim Gunung' for failing to report the incident immediately.
Jamili said, all the 'Malim Gunung' are directed to include in their briefings before the ascent, the prohibition of obscene behaviour on Mount Kinabalu and to install signboards notifying the tourists about the prohibition, while on Mount Kinabalu. – Bernama
