GUA MUSANG: The Fire and Rescue Department air unit based in Subang today made a mercy flight to save an Orang Asli boy, suspected of having dengue fever, in Kampung Piyel, Pos Bihai to receive treatment in Gua Musang Hospital.
Rodeph Angen, 16, was carried on a stretcher to the helicopter at about 1.40pm before landing at the grounds of Gua Musang Fire and Rescue station 20 minutes later to be sent to the hospital.
The mercy flight was made because the patient resides in a remote area of the district that was difficult to access by road.
Speaking to reporters here, the department's air base public relations officer Siti Farizun Naim said the patient was accompanied by his mother Sharipah Amar, 41.
She said the department acted quickly to save the boy's life as soon as a report was received from the Orang Asli Development Department (Jakoa) to inform he had fever and was in a critical stage.

"We are always prepared to carry out mercy flights, especially those involving Orang Asli residents in the interior of Kelantan which faced problems in road communication.
Meanwhile Sharipah said she became worried to see her son shivering, particularly when he suffered a high temperature and resolved to report Rodeph's increasingly critical condition to Jakoa after failing to send him to the hospital for two days.
She said the trip to Gua Musang hospital was far and she did not have a four-wheel-drive vehicle. – Bernama
