KUALA LUMPUR: The red-shirt Sept 16 rally may possibly incite racial tension among the citizens if it were given the green light to proceed.
DAP vice-chairman Teresa Kok (pix) said the government and police should come forward and provide feedback on the Malay solidarity rally, called the "Himpunan Maruah Melayu".
She also did not deny the possibility that the rally's yet-to-be-known organiser might purposely trying to cause racial instability in the country.
"Of course they are trying to incite racial hatred. The government should do the right thing and come out with the right response," she told theSun.
Taking the Low Yat melee in July as an example, Kok warned that even the smallest amount of intimidation could escalate to an uncontrollable degree.
A message calling for the solidarity of the Malays has been circulating in the social media urging them to attend a gathering expected to be held in Bukit Bintang on Malaysia Day.
It is however unknown if this gathering has anything to do with another protest, "Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu", expected to be held by an anti-Bersih group on the same date.
Several pro-Malay groups has been calling for a rally to show Malay unity as a counter reaction to the recently concluded Bersih 4, which saw little participation from the Malays.
Kok criticised the government and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar for remaining silent over the matter.
"The whole country is waiting for the IGP to respond, and yet he is saying nothing.
"When a certain group come out with a poster of slashing the Chinese (prior to Bersih 4), it was a threat to public safety. How come the Home Ministry and the police are not saying anything now?" she added.
