IJM bags RM455.5m contract from Hotel Equatorial

    PETALING JAYA: IJM Corp Bhd's unit IJM Construction Sdn Bhd will undertake the proposed mixed commercial development of the former Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur in Jalan Kuching for RM455.5. million.
    In a statement last Friday, IJM said the company has received the letter of award from GDP Architects Sdn Bhd on behalf of Hotel Equatorial (M) Sdn Bhd and Fenghuang Development Sdn Bhd for stage two works of the new 52-storeys block, known as Equatorial Plaza.
    The construction will take 36 months and involves the construction works of the podium block, office tower and hotel tower and the interior design works for the hotel tower and hotel outlet.
    Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur, one of the city's oldest landmarks was opened in 1973, ceased operations on April 1, 2012 to make for the redevelopment.
    The hotel is a unit of hotel chain Hotel Equatorial Group with a presence in Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, Penang, ShangHai and Ho Chi Minh City.
