KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak today urged the people to work together to bring about transformations which will make Malaysia a nation which upholds moderation based on Islamic objectives and the teachings of the Sunnah wal Jamaah ( of the Shafie sect in Islam).
He said although the nation was faced with economic and political challenges, the aspiration of making Malaysia a developed and prosperous country was still being pursued.
"Today, we are faced with extremism in various forms. On the one hand, radical extremism such as the IS group is a thorn which tarnishes the true image of Islam's purity.
"On the other end, there are extremist groups which are based on liberalism.
These liberalism extremists have dismantled everything, including religion.
"This is also a form of extremism which poses a threat to national security and prosperity," Najib said in his Maal Hijrah 1437/2015 message posted on his blog NajibRazak.com.
As such, the Prime Minister said he hoped that the spirit of "hijrah" (moving forward) would be a source of determination and commitment by Malaysians to be the best people, thus able to spread Islam throughout the world.
Najib also said that history was an important resource to the country in building a vision to become a modern Islamic and high-income nation.
"Our national vision is to become a modern Islamic country which is developed and high-income," he said, adding that Malaysia's global vision was for the world to contain a multitude of nations, peoples, languages and religions for a peaceful and prosperous place to live in.
Najib said that this was the same message that he stressed in his speech at 70th Annual General Assembly of the United Nations in New York recently.
"I stressed that a Muslim nation had a role to play in promoting the struggle for honour, knowledge, good, sympathy and humility, but especially important, without force," he said – Bernama
