KUALA LUMPUR: Sixteen locals are being hunted by the security forces in Sabah for being in cahoots with foreign criminals, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim.
"The pictures of the individuals involved have been widely circulated to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators who are believed to have conspired with foreign criminals, feeding them with information," he said in reply to a question from Datuk Jumat Idris (BN-Sepanggar) on the security level of areas particularly near the border to the Philippines, following the unrest in Marawi in Mindanao island.
Shahidan said the government constantly collaborated with the Philippine authorities on security measures following Philippine troops declaring war against Daesh militants in Marawi.
He said the security forces took seriously the development of the chaos there and took into account the possibility of its residents fleeing to Malaysia. — Bernama
