KLANG: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry will ensure Siti Nuraisyah Sahrin who lost both her legs in a hit and run accident on Monday receives all the help she needs to cope with her situation.
"We are deeply saddened by what happened to her, but at the same time we want to make sure that she gets the best treatment possible from all sides, especially from the ministry," said its Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim.
Rohani, who visited Siti Nuraisyah at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital today, said the 13-year-old must go for counselling to facilitate her rehabilitation.
"She is still in trauma, and if we don't deal with her trauma through counselling, it could have some serious effects on her state of mind in the future," she said, adding that Siti Nuraisyah's family needs to be a pillar of support for her at this crucial time.
Rohani said there is a big likelihood that Siti Nuraisyah will need prosthetic legs and the ministry will provide it for her when she has healed.
In the accident which happened at 3.30pm on Monday at Parit 16, Sungai Panjang, Sabak Bernam, Siti Nuraisyah and her stepsister Shamim Amira Roslan, 14, were on a motorcycle on the way home from school.
