JOHOR BARU: All patients who come to hospitals must be treated as "VIPs".
This is the advise given by the out-going Johor State Health Department director Datuk Dr. Mohd Khairi Yakub (pix) who served in the state for eight years and would start his retirement on March 24.
He said patients visit hospitals because they are sick and thus must be treated and cared for well.
"Do not see patients as a burden but rather as someone you can give care to and heal their ailments," he said, adding that patients take notice of staff who cares and those who do not by their service and attitude.
Saying this at the presentation of excellence award to Johor Health Department staff at Persada here today, Dr Mohd Khairy said if there are complaints, staff must attend to it immediately by going to see them.
"By talking and engaging with them, the problem can be resolved. This is a clear Standing Operating Procedure in handling complaints," he said.
He also advised all staff to be smartly dressed and perform their duties professionally and responsibly so that patients will respect them.
