DANIEL Handler's A Series of Unfortunate Events books are getting Netflix's Original Series treatment, with Neil Patrick Harris of How I Met Your Mother and Hedwig and the Angry Inch now confirmed in the starring role.
NPH is to play the books' evil Count Olaf, after Malina Weissman (Supergirl) and newcomer Louis Hynes were previously installed as Violet and Klaus, a pair of adventurous orphans.
K. Todd Freeman, who appeared in 2014's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles alongside Weissman, and Patrick Warburton of Rules of Engagement have the roles of Mr. Poe and Lemony Snicket respectively -- Snicket being Handler's initial nom de plume, the in-fiction author of his original 13-book collection.
A 2004 feature film, which was Oscar nominated in four craft categories, had Jim Carrey as Count Olaf, Jude Law as Snicket and Timothy Spall as Poe among its adult leads, while Liam Aiken and Emily Browning played the children.
Filming on the Netflix series is scheduled for a November start, Deadline reports. — AFP Relaxnews
