MAB Kargo to handle 35,000 tonnes of cargo this year

    KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines Bhd's (MAB) cargo arm MAB Kargo Sdn Bhd is targeting to handle around 30,000 tonnes to 35,000 tonnes cargo volume this year, from 28,000 tonnes in 2015.
    Speaking at a press conference after signing the memorandum of cooperation with Azerbaijan's cargo carrier Silk Way West Airlines today, MAB Kargo CEO Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi said with bigger aircrafts now, it should be able to achieve the target.
    Compared with the Boeing 747-400F aircraft, which is capable of carrying about 110 tonnes, he said the B747-800F freighters capacity was up to 140 tonnes.
    "In terms of capacity, we have the opportunity to upswell."
    "We will also be flying more on the A330. We are covering India, South East Asia, China and Japan as well," he said.
    Meanwhile, Ahmad Luqman said the strategic partnership entails a block space agreement (BSA) on a twice weekly route to and from Kuala Lumpur and Amsterdam via Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Azerbaijan.
