Guan Eng opens house for media scrutiny

GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today opened his home for media access following the allegations of impropriety in purchasing the RM2.8 million property on Oct 25 last year.
Lim said he was the only Chief Minister to open his house for around 20 reporters to enter and for public scrutiny.
He even challenged any of Barisan Nasional's (BN) elected representatives to do so to ensure transparency.
"I am allowing the media to tour my house to stop the slander and lies made by certain quarters over its purchase," he added.
Lim said his house was an ordinary property unit located in an upper-middle class neighbourhood.
He said he had nothing to hide and expressed hope the people would understand the real situation instead of thinking he was living in luxury.

He, nonetheless, wished to thank his wife for allowing the media to enter the house although she wants her privacy to be respected.
"At least she agreed to open the door," he said after giving reporters a guided tour of his house on Jalan Pinhorn.
Lim came under the spotlight after a BN parliamentarian alleged wrongdoing in the purchase during parliamentary proceedings on March 17.
Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Shabudin Yahaya had reportedly claimed the house was bought below market value ranging between RM6 million and RM6.5 million.
Lim, however, said the house was purchased with a bank loan of RM2.1 million while the remaining RM700,000 was from his allowance as Chief Minister and elected representative.
Earlier at a press conference in Komtar, Lim said he was disappointed that Shabudin did not turn up for a meeting to seek clarification on the purchase of his home.
He said the BN elected representative should have the courage and come forward to explain the claims he made in Parliament.
"Why is it so difficult for him to come and face me?" he asked.
He pointed out that other opposition leaders such as Rafizi Ramli and Tony Pua will surely attend any BN debate if given the opportunity to do so.
Lim also dared Shabudin to repeat his allegation in public.
"We know he has immunity in the August House," he said, adding that what was said in Parliament could not be taken to court.
Meanwhile, Shabudian described Lim as "immature" for challenging him to a discussion over the bungalow dispute.
Speaking at a press conference in the Umno Tasek Gelugor division office today, Shabudin said Lim seemed worried over the dispute going viral.
"Actually, as a senior politician, Lim does not need to be worried, but should allow the related authorities to investigate the matter," he told reporters.
