Mode One Form Six centres now known as Form Six college

KULIM: Effective today, all 10 Mode One Form Six centres nationwide will be known as Form Six College.
Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the decision was to enhance the image, quality and education system of Form Six and boost the motivation of students.
"However, the naming of Form Six College would only apply to Mode 1 Form Six centres. I hope the students will be more motivated to study Form Six after this," he said opening Taman Mahsuri Form Six College and its Second Awards Day here, today.
Also present were Education Ministry Day School Management Division director Datuk Abdullah Mad Yunus and Kedah deputy education director Sofaruddin Ismail.
Mahdzir said Mode 1 Form Six centres have separate premises from mainstream schools and their own administration and operates at least 12 classes.
Mode 2 refers to Form Six centres with at least 12 classes in a separate block within a mainstream school while Mode 3 refers centres with less than 12 classes sharing a block in a mainstream school.
Form Six Colleges have their own premises and administration, the teachers are specially appointed and have a conducive pre-university environment.
By 2020, Form Six Colleges were expected to increase to 44, Mode 2 Form Six centres (91) and Mode 3 (384).
Meanwhile, Mahdzir said Taman Mahsuri Form Six College which currently has almost 600 Form Six students would be known as Kulim Form Six College. — Bernama
