Letters - Let Sri Lanka solve its problems

23 May 2016 / 20:30 H.

"LONG road ahead for Sri Lanka" (Letters, May 23) refers. The people in Jaffna want a peaceful life but have been persuaded by some people living overseas to object to humanitarian projects initiated by the government.
On the failure of the Sri Lankan government to punish those responsible for war crimes: Why target Sri Lanka? War crimes are taking place all over the world.
On the land belonging to Tamils grabbed by the armed forces in the name of security: The numbers are exaggerated and it is not only Tamils. Land belonging to other Sri Lankans, including prime land in Colombo, has also been taken over by the armed forces.
On Tamil fishermen being refused permission to fish in certain areas: This is untrue. Sri Lankan Navy is arresting fishermen from India for fishing in Sri Lanka waters, thereby protecting the Jaffna fishermen.
Without interference from overseas, Sri Lankans are capable of solving their internal problems. Any interference from outside will only disrupt and delay the peace process.
