PUTRAJAYA: Road Transport Department (RTD) has issued a tender notice for the public to bid on the registration number plate of the new Putrajaya 'F' prefix for the algorithm of '1' to '9999'.

Issued yesterday by the Vehicle Licensing Section of RTD, the tender will be opened on June 1 until its closing deadline at 12 noon on June 14.

The notice stated that the result of the bidding will be announced on June 30 and any tender application must be accompanied by a copy of IC (for individual) or registration document (for business entity/company) or a formal letter of application (for government agency).

"A deposit of 50% from the submitted tender value must be paid to Director-General of RTD in the form of bank draft, postal order or money order," the notice said. "A service charge of RM10 is also required to be paid at RTD counter."

Last week, RTD director-general Datuk Seri Ismail Ahmad had stated a special committee would finalise the bidding process for around two weeks after the tender's closing date.
theSun reported on May 18 that Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Aziz Kaprawi had said with the new Putrajaya prefix, he expected a lot of public interest and bidding frenzy especially for "F 1" registration plate.

The deputy minister had said: "In the UK, a Yorkshire businessman declined an offer of £6 million (RM34.7 million) two years ago to buy the 'F 1' registration plate which he purchased at £440,000 (RM2.5 million) as the registration number for his Bugatti Veyron in 2008."

"I think many Ferrari owners will be queuing up to bid for the single alphabet of 'F' (number plate)," Aziz had said in a jest.
The highest prices of bidding for number plates ever recorded in RTD history were RM748,000 for "W 1 N" and RM520,000 for "WWW 1" by Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar in 2014 and 2012 respectively.
