KUALA LUMPUR: Genting Hong Kong Ltd, a 16.87% associate company of Genting Malaysia Bhd, has launched Dream Cruises, a brand new cruise line catering to the large and rapidly growing premium market in Asia.
Dream Cruises president Thatcher Brown said Dream Cruises is the first-ever Asian luxury cruise line and will focus on markets like China, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia, India, Japan, Korea and Australia.
“It’s timely to introduce this product as the growth of the cruise market in Asia is in double digits,” he told reporters at the launch yesterday.
Dream Cruises aims to be a pacesetter in the cruise industry in the region, meeting the needs of the emerging generation of affluent Asian travellers.
Genting Dream, the inaugural ship of Dream Cruises, is currently undergoing fit-out at shipbuilders Meyer Werft in Germany and will arrive in Singapore on Nov 4, 2016 with a two-night High Seas Cruise, followed by a six-night cruise from Singapore to Hong Kong. The ship will debut from her homeport of Guangzhou (Nansha Port) on Nov 13, 2016.
Brown said Dream Cruises will introduce its second ship, World Dream, in November 2017.
Genting Hong Kong is principally engaged in cruise and cruise-related operations along with leisure, entertainment and hospitality activities. Its stable of brands include Star Cruises for the contemporary cruise market and Crystal Cruises for the international luxury cruise market.
“We’re increasing capacity and portfolio so we can continue to build our market share. Dream Cruises is an important part of contributing to the overall benefit of the business in our (Genting Hong Kong) cruise portfolio,” said Brown.
Genting Dream will accommodate a lower berth of 3,400 guests, attended to by 2,000 crew members, forming the highest crew-to-guest ratio in Asia.
Genting Hong Kong has a primary listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and a secondary listing on the Singapore Exchange.
