BN consensus undermined in Hudud preference

SHAH ALAM: Umno's unilateral decision to prioritise the Hudud Bill in Parliament has undermined BN's model of consensus governance.
Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong said other BN component parties are upset over the move and they have requested a BN Supreme Council meeting to discuss the matter.
"I think BN's spirit of consensus between the 13 component parties is very important and we have requested a meeting so we can discuss it. There must be more consensus in decision making," Mah told a press conference at the Setia City Convention Centre today.
When asked about the possibility of collaboration between PAS and Umno, he simply said "I do not know".
Mah reiterated the need to have a decision making process based on consensus between BN component parties.
MCA, MIC, Gerakan, and SUPP gave a joint press conference today to state their common rejection of any attempts to impose Islamic Criminal Law as it violates the Federal Constitution.
The Hudud Bill was tabled by Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and was given the fast track over other government matters by Minister in charge of parliamentary affairs Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
Opposition parties noted that this is the first time a private member's bill from an Opposition MP was given precedence over government matters in Parliament and questioned the motive of such a move.
