Penang wants input from stakeholders on PTMP

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang state government's move to appoint 24 additional members to the Penang Transport Council (PTC) is to ensure the views and opinions from the state's stakeholders in regards to the implementation of the Penang Transport Master Plan(PTMP) is heard, said Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (pix).
He said the appointment which also includes Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblyman and representatives from non-governmental organisations will provide representation for all stakeholders in the council.
"We want to get as many views and input from stakeholders in Penang for the implementation of the PTMP," he said during a press conference at Komtar today.
He said the new appointments will take effect immediately and their term will end on Sept 30, 2017.
The PTC was established on June 3, 2009, to resolve transportation woes in the state with the initial appointment of 20 experts in transportation and NGO members to the council.
With the new appointments, PTC now comprises of representatives from DAP, PKR, BN, PAS, two local council presidents, government department directors, a municipal councilor and two NGO representatives.
The two NGO representatives are Anil Netto from Aliran and SM Mohamed Idris from the Penang Consumers Association both of whom are also part of Penang Forum, a coalition of Penang NGOs.
PTC chairman Chow Kon Yeow said the new appointments will see a total of 46 members in the council who will have access to proposal documents for the PTMP.
"The request for proposal will be made available to all of them so that they can give their views and input during the council meeting," he said.
