NESTLÉ Malaysia’s Milo® Malaysia Breakfast Day came to a grand close on May 29. The event attracted some 22,000 participants who gathered at Dataran Putrajaya. Held across seven different locations throughout Malaysia, the grand finale gathered a total of 50,000 people for a day of fun and activities.
BREAKFAST FUN
This year, Nestlé collaborated with Nutrition Month Malaysia (NMM) to raise awareness on the importance of having breakfast, at the same time encouraging Malaysians to “Own the Day”.
Besides the Milo® Breakfast 3km Family Fun Run and 5km Individual Run, participants were also treated to a carnival of activities that included Zumba sessions, football antics, educational games and body mass index checks by nutritionists from NMM. Cooking demonstrations were carried out by Chef Fadzly Omar to give busy families an idea of how to prepare quick breakfast meals.
“We are so pleased to be able to extend our reach across the nation this year. It is very rewarding to see such an overwhelming response from so many families across Malaysia demonstrating a positive spirit,” said Nestlé Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei regional head Alois Hofbauer.
“Besides driving a healthy lifestyle within the community, it also gives us the opportunity to come up close and thank the people for their continuous support.”
IMPORTANT MEAL
Nestlé Malaysia corporate wellness manager Cher Siew Wei explained that the current breakfast trends among Malaysian children remain bleak. Recent findings from MyBreakfast Study, Malaysia’s first comprehensive nationwide study on breakfast habits, highlighted that one in four children skips breakfast at least three days a week. The study involved the participation of 8,705 school children.
Cher shared that the findings also revealed that children who did not have breakfast showed low physical activity levels, and that children with higher physical activity levels had consumed malted beverages.
“Malted beverages can be an effective dietary strategy to improve overall breakfast quality. According to the MyBreakfast Study, those who drink malted beverages were more likely to meet the Recommended Nutrient Intake (RNI) in terms of total energy intake, protein and other vitamins,” she added.
Milo® Malaysia Breakfast Day was first held in Malacca this year, followed by Kuantan, Kota Kinabalu, Johor, Penang, Kuching and Putrajaya. For more information, visit the Milo® website.
