SERDANG: Police are hot on the heels of a group of carjackers targeting luxury cars in Puchong.
Serdang district police chief ACP Megat Mohd Aminuddin Megat Alias said the syndicate has been active for the past three months and involved in seven carjacking cases here.
"In the latest case on June 6, four carjackers, who were all locals and in their 30's, took off with a vehicle while the driver was still inside.
"The suspects took the victim's belongings, injured him, and extorted money from him. The suspects then dropped off the victim on the same day at a residential area near here," Megat Mohd Aminuddin told a press conference at Serdang district police headquarters here today.
Police got the breakthrough into the case following a tip-off and arrested a man in his 30's on June 7 at about 3pm at his residence.
After interrogation, the suspect led investigators to Suria Kinrara Complex here where police retrieved six luxury vehicles and stolen items, namely SmartTag devices, debit cards, credit cards and driving licences.
He added that police are also looking for three more locals believed to be connected with the case.
The case is being investigated under Section 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.
Meanwhile, on a separate case, Megat Mohd Aminuddin said police have crippled a house break-in gang with the arrest of three suspects at Taman Serdang Raya, Seri Kembangan here.
He said the suspects who were all locals aged between 26 and 46, were held in two separate raids conducted between 4pm and 6pm on June 9.
The gang is believed to be involved in four robbery and house break-in cases in Klang Valley, especially in Selangor.
Sources said police have also arrested a local in his 30's for selling the stolen items from the break-ins. The police also seized several tools used in robberies and house break-ins.
