KUALA LUMPUR: Police have identified a gunman who shot and wounded two brothers near Taman Samudera, Batu Caves yesterday.
Investigators also detained a 31-year-old man who is a friend of the victims and was present with the brothers during the incident.
It is learnt that the victims, who are car repossessors, were pursued and shot by a gunman after a third person who came with the brothers drove away the shooter's Volkswagen car.
The Volkswagen was fitted with false registration plates.
Gombak police chief ACP Ali Ahmad said police traced the gunman from the car ownership of the Volkswagen and are pursuing the man.
"The shooter is the car owner and prior to the shooting, he and the victims had met to discuss a matter which we cannot disclose. The meeting did not go on well and the Volkswagen was driven off. The car was not repossessed due to loan default but it was over another matter. We know the identity of the gunman and are looking for him. He has a past criminal record. We hope to solve this case soon," Ali told theSun.
He said a friend of the brothers was arrested to shed light on the case.
The brothers, aged 30 and 34 are recuperating at the Selayang Hospital. The older man, who sustained a gunshot to an eye, is reported to be in serious condition.
After a heated argument with the gunman and his accomplice at noon yesterday, a friend of the brothers drove away the gunman's Volkswagen.
The brothers, who were in separate cars, trailed the Volkswagen. When they arrived at a traffic light junction near Sunway Batu Caves, the gunman who had tailed them with an accomplice, stepped out of his car before going up to both the cars of the siblings and opened fire.
The victims' friend who drove the Volkswagen abandoned the car and took to his heels on seeing the gunman opening fire.
