MALACCA: A total of 172 products from research and development (R&D) have been commercialised from 2014 to March this year, said Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah.

He said most of them were biotechnology, pharmaceutical and electronic products that could give a major impact to the country, particularly in the R&D product commercialisation industry.

"All these products are produced through grants from the various ministries and not confined to products produced through the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti) grants," he told reporters after the Innocraft (Sirim) breaking of fast here last night.

Via the 2016 Malaysia Commercialisation Year Committee, he said 360 products are expected to be commercialised by 2020.

He said RM32.28 million were spent under the 11th Malaysia Plan to support R&D activities in the country. — Bernama
