Firecrackers, fireworks worth RM95k seized since June 2: Customs

ALOR STAR: Kedah Customs carried out nine raids and seized 8,653kg of firecrackers and fireworks worth RM95,846 under 'Ops Raya' since June 2.
Kedah Customs director Datuk Abdul Latif Abdul Kadir said unpaid tax on the seized firecrackers and fireworks amounted to RM67,041.
Abdul Latif said the raids were carried out at the Bukit Kayu Hitam entry point and several premises in Alor Star.
He said on June 26, apart from firecrackers and fireworks, Customs also seized 450,000 contraband cigarettes worth RM45,100 and unpaid tax amounting to RM243,251.
Abdul Latif urged members of the public to contact the Customs department at 1-800-88-8855 if they come across anyone selling firecrackers illegally. — Bernama
