Jayasiri appointed Secretary-General of MITI

KUALA LUMPUR: The Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, today announced the appointment of Datuk Jayasiri Jayasena as Secretary-General of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) effective July 2, 2016.
He will replace Tan Sri Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria, who will retire on that day, according to a statement issued late today.
Jayasiri, 58, a graduate from Universiti Malaya with a Bachelor of Arts (South-East Asian Studies) (Honours) degree, has served over 35 years in public service since he joined the Administrative and Diplomatic Service on Dec 1, 1981.
He is currently the ministry's deputy secretary-general (strategy and monitoring).
Jayasiri has vast experience in international trade, domestic and regional economies, research and policy, international trade relations international and multilateral trade negotiations.
"I believe that Jayasiri's qualifications, knowledge, experience and credibility will help him carry out this responsibility effectively and to continue MITI's mission to make Malaysia the preferred investment choice and among the most competitive by 2020," said Ali Hamsa.
He also expressed his appreciation and gratitude, on behalf of the government, to Rebecca for her contributions and service for over 35 years. — Bernama
