Try first commuting via public transport to enter CBD: Loga Bala

KUALA LUMPUR: The public should not hesitate but try commuting via public transport to enter the Kuala Lumpur Central Business District (CBD), says Federal Territories Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mohan.
He was responding to public views which disagreed with the government move to limit the parking (metered on road parking only) duration to only two hours in CBD areas like Bukit Bintang, KLCC, Ampang and other areas in the city centre.
He said the move was aimed at stimulating the public to often use public transport to commute rather than their own vehicles.
"Definitely, if we find there are a lot of hiccups with the plan, we will reconsider. At the moment, they should try...if they do not start now, it will not become a habit (for them) to use public transport.
"We have to start somewhere, and I think now is the right time," he told reporters after presenting Raya goodies to the public at the Perhentian Bas Jalan Duta here today.
On Saturday, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor announced that starting July 16, parking (metered on road parking) in the CBD area would be limited to two hours only.
He had said it was to deter motorists from hogging parking space for long hours and depriving others from parking.
Apart from that, the parking fee will also be increased to RM2 for the first hour and RM3 for the second hour.
Those vehicles which exceed the two-hour limit will be clamped or towed away.
Tengku Adnan said for the moment, the authorities were still studying whether to implement the move in Brickfields, but said that townships like Bangsar, Kepong and Hartamas would not be affected just yet.— Bernama
