Integrated system to monitor traffic summonses: Liow

BENTONG: The Road Transport Department (RTD) will work together with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) in coming up with a system to synchronise information on summons issuance and enforcement actions, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
He said for this purpose he had directed RTD director-general Datuk Nadzri Siron to have a meeting with the police and SPAD immediately to discuss an integrated system to allow the agencies to share information on traffic offenders.
He said the move was important to ensure more effective enforcement of road transport laws and to avoid overlapping jurisdiction among the three agencies.
"Currently the three agencies are working separately. As such when there are outstanding traffic summonses from the police, the RTD is not aware and the department cannot help the police to blacklist the drivers' licenses."
"If the police do issue a summons, it has to be submitted to the RTD for us to blacklist the driver's license," he told reporters after launching Bentongtuition.com here.
Meanwhile, Liow, who is also Bentong member of parliament said currently it was not necessary to increase on the mandatory periodic inspection on public transport vehicles by Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom).
He said the twice yearly inspections were sufficient to ensure safety and quality service. — Bernama
