KULIM: A housewife, in her 40s, was injured when an unknown man slashed her wrist during a robbery in Taman Haruan, Kelang Lama here, this morning.
The woman was opening the gate of her house to drive her two sons and a daughter to school when a man wearing a motorcycle helmet approached her at 7am.
Her son Kamarul Ashraf Kamarul Azman, 11, said he, his brother, 13, and sister, 15, were in the car when he saw his mother struggling with a man who had grabbed her handbag.
He said he was seated in the back seat with his brother, waiting for his mother to get into the car.
"Suddenly, I heard my mother shouting for help and the man slashed her wrist using a parang before fleeing with her handbag," he said when met today.
He said he said he saw blood gushing from his mother's hand and he then ran out to help his mother who was crying profusely.
He said his mother was then sent to the Kulim Hospital (HK) for treatment before lodging a police report.
The woman, however, declined to be interviewed.
A neighbour who refused to be identified said she had earlier noticed two men on a motorcycle in the area just before the incident.
"I was sweeping my house compound and noticed the motorcycle. However, I did not think anything of it until the incident," she said.
Meanwhile, Kulim District Police chief Supt Abdullah Arshad, when contacted, confirmed receiving a report on the case. — Bernama
