Kelantan Umno stands behind PM in facing challenges including 1MDB

KOTA BARU: Kelantan Umno Liaison has expressed its undivided support for Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak in light of the challenges he is facing particularly in regards to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Its chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said Kelantan Umno stands behind the Prime Minister and Umno president against the numerous condemnations hurled at him.
"Various allegations have been hurled against him yet he has remained patient. We are confident he will be able to rise above it all," he told reporters when met after an Umno liaison meeting at Bangunan Umno Kelantan here last night.
On Thursday, Najib said the government viewed the lawsuits filed by the United States Department of Justice to recover Malaysian assets alleged to have been acquired through misappropriation of 1MDB funds, seriously.
The prime minister noted that the DoJ's action was civil rather than criminal, and only cited certain names.
Meanwhile, Mustapa who is also International Trade and Industry Minister said Kelantan Umno also supported the Malaysian government's stand not to shield any culprit in the case.
"We support the government to ensure that those responsible would be brought to book, and speedily.
"We do not want the action to be further delayed because Malaysians would start asking questions," he said.
In another development, Mustapa said Kelantan Umno had received many requests from university students, government staff and party grassroots for an information session on the 1MDB issue.
To this end, he said Kelantan Umno was in the midst of getting speakers who are well-versed in the issue for the session. — Bernama
