KUALA LUMPUR: The recent spate of shooting cases believed to be by hired killers is not worrying and cause for alarm as it is still under control, said Inspector-General of police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
He is of the view that the shootings were done with reasons behind it.
"There are reasons behind the shooting and they are not done at random," he said when asked to comment on the four men who shot dead a 43-year-old man at an intersection near Setapak Central here on Wednesday .
Speaking to reporters after opening the first KPD Mart at Unikop College in Batu Caves here today, Khalid said the police will put in place additional measures to ensure shooting cases are kept in control and do not increase.
"We have taken several additional measures but our borders are wide and porous," he added.
As to the killing of V. Kandasamy believed to be the "number two" in the Satu Hati gang, Khalid said police believe the four suspects are still in the country.
"We believe the suspects have not fled from the country as they have nowhere to go. We will hunt them down," he added.
Kandasamy, a moneylender who suffered at least 10 gunshots, was driving alone in a heavily-tinted Honda Accord when he was attacked at 3.35pm on Wednesday.
On another issue, Khalid said former Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Zeti Akthar Aziz, outgoing Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Abu Kassim Mohamed and ex-attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail will not be hauled up for questioning following the report lodged against them.
He said they will set a meeting with Umno Youth to find out what proof did the complainant have before deciding on the next course of action.
"This is a very serious accusation. Let us find out what they have first. We will meet the complainant either today or tomorrow," he said.
On Tuesday, Umno youth vice-chief Khairul Azwan Harun filed a police report against them for their alleged involvement in a conspiracy to topple Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak and the Malaysian government.
