High Court to hear SPAD's application on Sept 26

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has fixed Sept 26 to hear the application by the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) to strike out a civil suit filed by taxi drivers from Klang Valley.
The taxi drivers' lawyer, R.Kengadharan, said the matter would be heard before High Court judge Su Geok Yiam on that day.
Yesterday, Kengadharan said Uber (the ride sharing application) had withdrawn their action, with liberty to file afresh, if necessary.
"They have to pay RM3,500 costs to the plaintiff," he told the media after the case was brought up before a deputy registrar.
Uber had filed an application to intervene in the suit but the taxi drivers had objected to the application.
On Dec 30, 2015, taxi drivers had filed the civil suit against SPAD, seeking the High Court to ban Uber, GrabCar and Blacklane.
The 102 members, including its president, Zailani Isa Usuludin, are seeking a declaration to ban Uber, GrabCar and Blacklane activities and operation as it is not subjected to Land Public Transport's Act.
They have also claimed that the drivers do not have any insurance coverage to protect the passengers and violated Land Public Transport Act and that Uber, GrabCar and Blacklane were given priority by the defendant while their rights and interest were side-lined and ignored.
